Trend of Clinical Waste Incineration continued in 2024


 

The Waste Data Interrogator data recently published by the EA shows a continuing increase in the incineration of Clinical Waste, but mainly in ‘MSW Incinerators’.

Recently published data by the EA shows a continuing increase in the incineration of Clinical Waste, with an increase of 83% since 2020, but all is not as it first seems...

Where Monksleigh has had to adjust previous years to reflect that some Clinical Waste Incinerators reported in annual reports, but not via Waste Data Interrogator (WDI), in 2024 these sites reported in both. 

For MSW incinerators there has been an 83% growth since 2020 - with a similar issue to that previously reported, where the WDI figures show a far higher figure than the annual reports by some large sites which appear to mis-classify waste. 

The story does not, however, indicate this is all about a growth of Clinical Waste generated.
